Ongoing project..
I started shooting this series around 5 years ago, 2018 - I am currently documenting and looking to add motion in this summer, 2023.
The Beya, Sumo House
We get to the location at 5am, Its already humid, its going to be another sweltering day in the Tokyo suburbs.
There are already stirrings from behind the frosted glass entrance, figures can be seen moving around.
We are escorted in by one of the young’ns and shown to a safe, out of the Sumo’s way area to start filming.
Later in the filming process I was allowed on to the floor and had 2 Sumos flanking me so I wasnt flattened by a wayward scurmish!
The help, patience and assistance from the Sumo’s and Beya owners is incredibly humbling... I take it gladly and shoot like crazy just trying to capture and document everything unfolding before me.
